Get Ahead – Save Money – Start College Early!

Whitmore School is excited to announce a new Dual Credit opportunity with West Virginia University (WVU) through the WVU High School ACCESS Dual Credit Early College program. This opportunity allows full-time Whitmore School sophomores, juniors, and seniors to take WVU college courses online and earn both high school and college credit at the same time.

For each completed course, your child will earn:

  • 1 Whitmore School high school credit toward their graduation requirements, AND
  • 3–4 WVU college credit hours

Note: You will be scheduled for WVU Dual Credit support course(s) and work with your guidance counselor to ensure your success in your WVU college course(s). Each support course will count as one of your 6.0 Whitmore credits allowed in your enrollment year.

Eligibility Criteria

Grades 10, 11, and 12

Full-time Whitmore School sophomores, juniors, and seniors

Request Approval PRIOR to Applying

Request Outside Study Credit approval before applying.

3.0 GPA

Have an overall 3.0 Grade Point Average to apply.

U.S. Citizen

Students must show proof of U.S. citizenship.

Affordable Tuition:

  • West Virginia residents: $25 per credit hour ($75 per 3-credit course, $100 per 4-credit course)
  • Out-of-state residents: $75 per credit hour ($225 per 3-credit course, $300 per 4-credit course)
  • Students are responsible for paying additional fees directly to WVU: textbooks, lab fees, and transcript fees

WVU Dual Credit Courses Application Process

Full-time Whitmore School eligible students follow 4 simple steps to apply: 

  1. Click on the Request Outside Course Approval on your Student Desk and complete your request PRIOR to applying to WVU.
  2. Once approved by Whitmore School, complete the WVU application:
    Applications are now open until May 15th for the Summer Semester.
    Applications are now open until August 15th for the Fall Semester. 
  3.  After you receive your WVU admission notification, upload your signed Enrollment Authorization Form as a PDF to the Request Outside Study Course Approval link on your Student Desk.
  4. Pay the tuition for the course(s) you have been approved to take by clicking on the Additional Course Fees link on the Parent Desk. After your Dual Credit fees are paid, we will sign and submit your Enrollment Authorization Form to WVU, and add your WVU Dual Credit support course(s) to your Student Desk. You will be able to log into your eCampus account and begin your course(s) at WVU according to the semester start date.

Maximum Outside Courses per Academic Year

The maximum number of outside courses per Academic Year (September 1 – August 31) that will transfer to Whitmore School is as follows:
Grades 10, 11 = 2 courses
Grade 12 = 3 courses
