Stan, Founder

Stan has an M.A. in Special Education from West Virginia University. Besides a love for technology, Stan enjoys bicycling, contra dancing, and almost any outdoor activity. Stan is the founder of CompuHigh.


Amanda - teacher

Amanda, Curriculum and Instruction Director

Amanda has a B.A. in Spanish, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. We call her Doctor Amanda! When Amanda is not on the other end of the computer working with students, she is reading, running or doing something with her family. She is married and has two lovely daughters. Both are ice skaters, so she stays cold year-round.
Amanda works with Faculty and Professional Development and teaches Spanish 2.

Ellen graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa from the University of New Hampshire with a B.A. degree in Biology. She has been a biology teacher, Director of Admissions, business owner, Founder and Principal of South Carolina Whitmore School. She is passionate about helping students achieve academic success. Ellen and Steve have two children and one grandson. Ellen loves to garden and have fun on the lake. She teaches Work Ethics.

Jeannette - Educational Director

Jeannette holds an M.A. in Literary and Cultural Studies from Carnegie Mellon University and is halfway through an M.S. program in Counseling Psychology. Jeannette lives in West Virginia and loves to explore the wild forests and streams of the state with her husband and children.
Jeannette is the Educational Director.

Kathleen - Guidance Director

Kathleen is a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan with a B.A. in Elementary Education and is continuing her education towards a masters in counseling. Kathleen enjoys spending time with her friends and family, playing tennis, skiing, and hanging out with her husband and their dog, Molly.

Melissa - Admissions Director

Melissa works in the CompuHigh / Whitmore School Office as the Admissions Director. Melissa is our resident expert on all things related to enrollment. She is the first line of communication with prospective students and parents, helping them navigate the website and choose the program that is the best fit. She is happy to answer all of your questions.

Steve - Business manager

Steve, Business Manager

Steve has a B.S. degree in Finance from the University of Utah. He has been a commercial banker and successful retail business owner for eighteen years. He and Ellen have a son and a daughter (graduate of Compuhigh / Whitmore School) and one grandson. Steve lives in South Carolina and enjoys lake life with his wife and dog Daisy.

Ashley has a Bachelors in Education from Western Illinois University and a Masters in Education from Columbia College. She is passionate about building relationships with families and students. She currently lives in Lexington, SC with her husband and daughter. In her free time, Ashley loves spending time with her family, exercising and reading.

Berh - counselor

Beth, Counselor

Beth has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education – Social Sciences degree with a minor in History, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After traveling post-college, Beth now lives in her hometown in Florida. In her spare time, Beth enjoys gardening, reading, traveling, exercising, and spending time with her husband (they are newlyweds!). Beth has previous Academic Advising Experience that she brings to Whitmore students to guide them in achieving their educational goals.


Casey, Goals Coach

Casey had an untraditional path through school. He skipped his Junior and Senior years of high school and attended and early acceptance program at Simon’s Rock College where he earned his Associates degree at 18 years old.  He has worked in residential treatment for minors with mental health, drug, and behavioral issues. Recently he worked with students in South Carolina helping them reach their goal of graduating from high school in an online environment.
Casey is a Goals Coach and teaches PE.

Christine - teacher and counselor

Christine, Counselor

Christine has her M.S. in Education from the University of Rochester. She’s passionate about getting to know her students as individuals so she can better meet their needs. She also loves designing curriculum that is authentically engaging and accessible to all students. When she isn’t teaching she is reading, going for a run, or exploring Santiago, Chile where she currently lives.
Christine is a Guidance Counselor, and teaches Spanish 1. She also is expanding Whitmore’s foreign language and science curricula.

Inga - Data Specialist

Inga, Curriculum Specialist

Inga is originally from the Pacific Northwest, but now calls South Carolina her home. She has a daughter and son who bring her great pride and joy. Inga enjoys building memories with her two children, working in her yard and taking care of her menagerie of animals.
Inga works with our teachers to keep our courses typo free and up to date.


Josh, Counselor

Josh has a Master’s of Education in School Counseling from Liberty University. Throughout his 9 years of experience in education, he has served as a graduation coach, school counselor and registrar. He and his wife, Megan live and travel between Dalton, Georgia and Ukraine. Outside of work, Josh enjoys coaching football, teaching English and spending time with family and friends.


Lucas, Guidance Counselor

Lucas holds a B.A. in Inclusive Education & History from Nazareth College and a M.S. in Curriculum Development & Instructional Technology from SUNY Albany.  Lucas got his start teaching in the UK and has continued to work and live in Guatemala, Colombia, Kenya, and Uzbekistan.  He always prides himself on the relationships he forms with his students.  He currently calls Ottawa, Canada home.  Lucas speaks Spanish and is learning French.  When not in the classroom, Lucas enjoys traveling, learning from new cultures, reading, motorcycling, and the occasional dance class.

Rachel - counselor

Rachel, Counselor

Rachel has her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Experimental Psychology with a minor in Counseling. She also has her Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in School Counseling. Both degrees were earned at the University of South Carolina. Rachel loves dogs and volunteers at a pet shelter. She lives in South Carolina with her husband and child.

Shawna, Student Support Coach

Shawna has a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Georgia, and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Indiana University. She lives in Charleston, SC with her daughter. She also works with a company that provides employment opportunities for adults with cognitive disabilities.
Shawna is a Student Support Coach and teaches Psychology.


Alys - teacher


Alys has an MBA in International Management and Finance from Columbia Southern University, AL. She has traveled to over 40 countries and six continents for both work and pleasure. The height of her travels has taken her to the top of Kilimanjaro and surviving the dead sea. Alys lives in Florida with her husband, two children and her two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Sophie and Maxwell. She enjoys spending time with her family, going to the movies, the performing arts, fall foliage, skiing and trying new things.
Alys teaches American Government, World Geography and Art History.


Ashley has a Masters in English from The College of Charleston. She earned her teaching degree from Erskine College in 2009. Ashley loves to learn about the world around her. Throughout her teaching career, she has lived in Kuwait and Bangkok, Thailand. She currently resides in Malaysia. Ashley teachers English 9, English 11 and English 3.

Cathy - Math Department Chair


Cathy graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Secondary Education with specializations in math and physics and a Master’s in Educational Psychology: Program Evaluation and Research. Cathy is currently working on her doctoral degree in education with a focus on learning sciences. When Cathy isn’t teaching, she enjoys time with her three children and two grandchildren. Her hobbies include singing, reading, and doing puzzles.
Cathy teaches Pre-Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2-CP, Algebra 2-Honors Trigonometry, and Probability and Statistics.

Claudia - teacher


Claudia has a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and a Masters in Multi-Categorical Learning Disabilities. She lives in Fairmont, WV.
Claudia teaches English and Social Studies.

Clint - Social Studies Department Chair

Clint, Social Studies Department Chair

Raised in Northern Virginia and Central West Virginia, Clint Lemasters currently resides in Elkins, West Virginia with his wife Kim and daughter Mollie. Clint is a certified secondary teacher, and runs a horseshoeing (farrier) business. His hobbies include fly fishing, horseback riding, bow hunting, and trying (and sometimes succeeding!) to stay in shape.
Clint teaches World Geography and World History.

David - teacher


David has a Bachelors in Industrial Arts (Technology Education) from Fairmont State and a Masters in Administration from WVU. David has a small pick your own blueberry farm in West Virginia and plays old time music on the fiddle and bass with a couple of bands.
David teaches Web Design and Computer Applications.

David S.

David’s hometown is Miami Florida but he spent most of his career in the Washington DC area. He has a diverse background with expertise in quality, customer service, financial services, reporting and operations. He earned his economics degree from Florida International University. David is fluent in Spanish as a native speaker.  He is the father of two young kids, is married to Alys, our Social Studies teacher. He loves Florida’s unique outdoors and cooking with science.
David teaches Spanish.

Derwin - teacher

Derwin, English Department Co-Chair

Derwin holds a B.A. in English from Fairmont State University and began work on his Master’s in the fall of 2006 at WVU. His hobbies include reading Anglo-Saxon and Old English literature, strolling through art museums, and vegetable gardening with his wife. He also loves jazz and blues, and makes an incredible pot of gumbo. Derwin teaches at Fairmont State University as well as Whitmore School. Derwin teaches English 10 and English 10 Honors, English 11 Honors, English 12, Creative Writing, and Career Planning.

Heather - Teacher


Heather has a B.S. in Biology from James Madison University with a minor in Environmental Science. She lives in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia with her husband, 3 children, and German Shepherd named Laney. She enjoys running, reading and hiking.

Heather has a Master’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Mathematics from West Virginia University, as well as a Master’s of Education in Digital Media, New Literacies and Learning from Fairmont State University. She has had the opportunity to teach at the high school and collegiate levels since January of 2011. Prior to that, she was a personal tutor for students from grade 4 to grade 12. Mathematics has always been a passion of hers because of its elegance and organization; however,  Heather has many hobbies, which include dancing, painting, running, foreign languages, and traveling.

Jackie - teacher


Jackie graduated from Fairmont State University with a B.A. in Theatre and Secondary Education with specializations in English and Oral Communications. She is also employed with FirstEnergy. Jackie has a passion for dance and has worked with local dance studios, dance teams and has choreographed for local theatre productions, as well. Jackie lives in Fairmont, WV with her husband and two children.
Jackie teaches English 3, English 11, Business English, Speech.

Jen F


Jen graduated from California State University Long Beach with a B.A in Sociology with an emphasis in epidemiology and AIDS research.  She studied Spanish at the Universidad de San Francisco de Quito while living in Ecuador for two years.  During Jen’s nineteen years of teaching, she has lived and worked in Venezuela, Ecuador, the United States, and Mexico.    She is a devout surfer, enjoys growing her own food, and relishes time in the outdoors.  She has lived in Mexico for the past eight years with her husband Sam, and they have recently begun splitting their time living between Mexico and the mountains of Utah.  Jen teaches Spanish 1 and Fitness.

Jennifer has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education from the University of Alabama, AL. She is currently working toward a Master’s Degree in Library Science. She is passionate about teaching students how to research and find answers. Jennifer grew up on a farm where she learned to operate a skid steer loader.
Jennifer teaches English 9 and English 9 Honors.

Jessie - teacher

Jessie, Mathematics Department Chair

Jessie is a graduate of Fairmont State University with a B.A. in Secondary Mathematics Education and a graduate of West Virginia University with a M.A. in Higher Education Administration. She is currently finishing work on her doctorate in Higher Education Administration at WVU. Jessie lives in West Virginia and enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her children and family. Jessie teaches Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.

Jessie has M.A.T. from NOVA Southeastern University. She has been teaching science for 13 years. Jessie lives in Florida and enjoys boating, garage sales and volunteering at the Florida Oceanographic Society. She and her family love to go exploring and camping in their RV. Jessie is also a backyard beekeeper.

Joe - teacher


Joe has a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Science Education from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC and a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Physics from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY. Joe lives in Myrtle Beach, SC with his two children, and also teaches Science at SC Whitmore School. Joe enjoys reading and spending time with his children.
Joe teaches Physical Science, Physics and Biology.

Lindsey - teacher


Lindsey holds a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and a Masters Degree in Secondary Education Mathematics both from West Virginia University. She is originally from PA but now resides in Bridgeport, WV. Lindsey taught math at a couple local high schools after graduating, but now works full-time as a math instructor and as the Assistant Coordinator of Math Support at Fairmont State University. One of her passions is working with students to develop effective study skills and a good work ethic in order for them to be successful in (and enjoy) their math classes. When Lindsey is not teaching, she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, Crossfit, and all things DIY. Lindsey teaches Algebra 2 CP, Algebra 1, and Geometry.

Maggie - Teacher

Maggie has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University, AR. She is married and lives in Columbia, SC with her husband who is completing law school. Maggie teaches English 9, English 9 Honors, English 10, English 12 and American Literature.

Mark has a Master’s of Analytical Chemistry from WVU. He is a senior lecturer of Chemistry at WVU, and has reviewed and edited text books used at the college level. He resides in Morgantown with his wife and two children.
Mark teaches Chemistry.

Mary - teacher


Mary graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a MA in Political Science. She loves to travel and has been to more than 30 countries and lived in three (Moldova, United Kingdom, and Slovakia). She is a former Peace Corps volunteer and speaks fluent Romanian. Mary currently lives in Annapolis, MD with her husband.
Mary teaches US Government and World History.

Melissa H teacher

Melissa earned an M.A. in English from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina in 2015. Formerly, she worked as a chef and an international flight attendant. Even more than cuisine and travel, however, her true passion is literary studies. She and her husband are also parents to a darling baby girl and an orange striped cat.
Melissa teaches English 11 and English 10 Honors.

Misty - teacher


Misty has a bachelor of arts in English from Fairmont State University and spent several years as a journalist and editor. She is currently earning her master’s in special education and is a classroom teacher in West Virginia. Misty is an avid reader and artist and enjoys spending time with her husband and three children in their home among the hills.
Misty teaches English 9 and English 11 Honors.


Nelson was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and now resides in Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife and 3 children. He holds a B.A in Political Science from North Carolina State University and a Masters degree in Curriculum Design and Technology from Liberty University. Nelson enjoys spending time with family, watching movies, traveling, and meeting new people. He loves serving in his local church and is an avid jogger. Nelson holds nationwide seminars on Social Media Marketing, Communication skills, Copywriting and other valuable professional skills.
Nelson teaches U.S Government, U.S History and Career Planning.

Pam - teacher


Pamela graduated with a B.S. degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences from West Virginia University. She currently teaches perinatal education classes to the community through West Virginia University Hospitals. She has home schooled her two children for almost 13 years. Pamela enjoys spending time with her children, dinners with her five sisters, and hiking with her Australian cattle dog.
Pam teaches Anatomy and Physiology, Algebra 1, Health and Practical Math.



Sam graduated from Northern Arizona University with a B.S. in Education with a specialization in science. The past nineteen years of teaching has provided him the opportunity to learn and grow alongside students in the United States, Mexico, Ecuador and Venezuela. His hobbies include surfing, snowboarding, guitar, camping, and cooking.
Sam teaches Algebra 1, Practical Math and Earth Science.

Stan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University and a Masters of Arts degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He is an avid musician who composes and performs. Stan enjoys friends, family and fun in his hometown of Morgantown, WV.

Stephanie - teacher


Stephanie received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Ohio University. She has taught in a Montessori school where she focused on individualized learning with young learners. Stephanie is the mom of Callum, a sophomore at Whitmore she is also one of our Whitmore Bloggers. Be prepared for a good laugh when you read her blogs as she shares her personal experience as a parent of a virtual student.
Stephanie teaches Stress Management, US History and World Geography.


Daisy - school mascot

Daisy is a 9 lb Maltipoo and is our school mascot. She attends meetings and graduations. Daisy loves to meet students and parents when Ellen and Steve are traveling and hosting Coffee with the Principal. She loves Melissa because she always has a drawer full of treats.

I live in Illinois and I enrolled in Whitmore School my freshman year. I chose Whitmore because they allowed be to take responsibility for my education. My goal was to graduate early and I achieved it this spring!

I am a Whitmore graduate. As a full-time gymnast who practices 20 hours a week, Whitmore allowed me to keep up with my busy gymnastics schedule and get a personalized education at the same time. Through Whitmore, I also discovered my passion for writing and I can’t wait to see where it takes me!

The Pro’s and Con’s of Micro-Schools and Homeschool Pods

Virtual schools are taking on several new formats as a result of school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Micro-Schools are brick and mortar learning centers where small groups of students can “go to school” in a safe learning environment with adult supervision. Membership fees start at $250 month and tutoring fees start at $80 hour. Homeschool Pods are forming in neighborhoods all over the country. Organized and facilitated by parents, this option allows parents to take turns as the school facilitator. In this neighborhood option, there are usually no fees. Just neighbors being neighborly.
