Stan K., Founder

Stan has an M.A. in Special Education from West Virginia University. Besides a love for technology, Stan enjoys bicycling, contra dancing, and almost any outdoor activity. Stan is the founder of CompuHigh.

Administrators

Amanda

Amanda, Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction

Amanda has a B.A. in Spanish and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. We call her Doctor Amanda! When Amanda is not on the other end of the computer working with students, she is reading, running or doing something with her family. She is married and has two lovely daughters. Both are ice skaters, so she stays cold year-round.
Amanda coordinates the professional development for our faculty and evaluates and develops the curricula. She teaches Spanish 3 Honors.

Casey D. 2023

Casey, Student and Parent Support Director

Casey had an untraditional path through school. He skipped his Junior and Senior years of high school and attended an early acceptance program at Simon’s Rock College where he earned his Associates’s degree at 18 years old.  He has worked in residential treatment for minors with mental health, drug, and behavioral issues. Recently he worked with students in South Carolina helping them reach their goal of graduating from high school in an online environment.
Casey is the Goals Coach and PE teacher.

Ellen, Principal

Ellen graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa from the University of New Hampshire with a B.A. degree in Biology. She has been a biology teacher, Director of Admissions, business owner, and the Founder and Principal of South Carolina Whitmore School. She is passionate about helping students achieve academic success. Ellen and Steve have two children and one grandson. Ellen loves to garden and have fun on the lake. She teaches Work Ethics.

Kathleen - Guidance Director

Kathleen, Assistant Principal of Student and Parent Services

Kathleen is a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan with a B.A. in Elementary Education and is continuing her education towards a masters in counseling. Kathleen enjoys spending time with her friends and family, playing tennis, skiing, and hanging out with her husband and their dog, Molly.

Melissa - Admissions Director

Melissa works in the CompuHigh / Whitmore School Office as the Admissions Director. Melissa is our resident expert on all things related to enrollment. She is the first line of communication with prospective students and parents, helping them navigate the website and choose the program that is the best fit. She is happy to answer all of your questions.

Steve - Business manager

Steve, Business Manager

Steve has a B.S. degree in Finance from the University of Utah. He has been a commercial banker and successful retail business owner for eighteen years. He and Ellen have a son and a daughter (graduate of Compuhigh / Whitmore School) and one grandson. Steve lives in South Carolina and enjoys lake life with his wife and their dog, Daisy.

Ashley, Counselor

Ashley has a Bachelors in Education from Western Illinois University and a Masters in Education from Columbia College. She is passionate about building relationships with families and students. She currently lives in Lexington, SC with her husband and two daughters. In her free time, Ashley loves spending time with her family, exercising and reading.

Beth, Counselor

Beth has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education – Social Sciences degree with a minor in History, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After traveling post-college, Beth now lives along the Gulf Coast of Florida. In her spare time, Beth enjoys gardening, reading, traveling, exercising, and spending time with her husband, their son, and the family’s beloved Goldendoodle. Beth has previous academic advising and teaching experience that she brings to Whitmore, to assist students in achieving their educational goals.

Christine

Christine, Counselor

Christine has her M.S. in Education from the University of Rochester. She’s passionate about getting to know her students as individuals and helping them achieve their goals. When she isn’t working with students she is reading or walking on the beach in Viña del Mar, Chile where she currently lives with her significant other and their two cats. Christine is a Guidance Counselor and also developed Whitmore’s Spanish 1, Spanish 2, and Chemistry courses.

Inga - Data Specialist

Inga, Executive Assistant

Inga is originally from the Pacific Northwest but now calls South Carolina her home. She has previously worked at a public charter school in SC helping parents and students complete the admissions process. She most recently served as the Clerk of Court for several years before coming to Whitmore School. Inga has a daughter and son who bring her great pride and joy. Inga enjoys building memories with her family, enjoying the beauty of nature, working in her yard and taking care of her menagerie of animals.
Inga works with our admissions team and assists Principal Ellen. She teaches Community Service.

Josh

Josh, Counselor

Josh has a Master’s of Education in School Counseling from Liberty University. Throughout his 9 years of experience in education, he has served as a graduation coach, school counselor and registrar. He and his wife, Megan live and travel between Dalton, Georgia and Ukraine. Outside of work, Josh enjoys coaching football, teaching English and spending time with family and friends.

Lucas

Lucas, Counselor

Lucas holds a B.A. in Inclusive Education & History from Nazareth College and a M.S. in Curriculum Development & Instructional Technology from SUNY Albany.  Lucas got his start teaching in the UK and has continued to work and live in Guatemala, Colombia, Kenya, and Uzbekistan.  He always prides himself on the relationships he forms with his students.  He currently calls Ottawa, Canada home.  Lucas speaks Spanish and is learning French.  Lucas enjoys traveling, learning from new cultures, reading, motorcycling, and the occasional dance class.

Rachel 2023

Rachel, Counselor

Rachel has her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Experimental Psychology with a minor in Counseling. She also has her Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in School Counseling. Both degrees were earned at the University of South Carolina. Rachel loves dogs and volunteers at a pet shelter. She lives in South Carolina with her husband and 3 children. 

Sheli

Sheli, Support Coach

A lifelong learner at her very core, Sheli began teaching high school English in 2002 after a stint as an elementary school reading teacher.  Along the way, she earned an M.Ed. in Edcational Leadership and has extended her work beyond the classroom to specialize in developing and supporting sound teaching practices as an Instructional Coach in a large public charter high school. She also enjoys a few hobbies in her downtime — jogging, gardening, relaxing at the beach with her husband, Chris, and their furbaby, Harry, and — of course — reading for pure pleasure!

Alys, Electives Department Chair

Alys has an MBA in International Management and Finance from Columbia Southern University, AL. She has traveled to over 40 countries and six continents for both work and pleasure. The height of her travels has taken her to the top of Kilimanjaro and surviving the dead sea. Alys lives in Florida with her husband, two children and her two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Sophie and Maxwell. She enjoys spending time with her family, going to the movies, the performing arts, fall foliage, skiing and trying new things.

Amber has a Bachelors and a Masters in Education from Eastern Kentucky University. She lives in Albuquerque, NM with her husband and dog. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoys volunteering in her husband’s student ministry, reading, crocheting, and cross-stitching. Amber teaches English 10 and English 12 Honors

Amy

Amy holds a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Saint Michael’s College and a Master’s of Science in Science Education from Montana State University. She’s been teaching science for over 10 years in northern Vermont, where she resides with her husband and growing family. Amy’s passion for science extends to her hobbies, which include vegetable gardening, food preservation, and supporting her husband in their maple sugaring business. She also enjoys camping, traveling, and hiking. Amy teaches Chemistry and Physical Science.

Caroline

Caroline C. Caroline graduated from The College of Charleston after double majoring in Spanish and Secondary Education. She loved Charleston so much that she never left! She still lives there with her husband, their one year old son, their two dogs and two cats! She loves riding horses, reading and running. Caroline teaches Spanish1 and 2.

Claudia has a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and a Masters in Multi-Categorical Learning Disabilities. She lives in Fairmont, WV with her husband and two children.
Claudia is the Assistant Advisor to the WS-National Honor Society. She also teaches English and Social Studies.

Clint

Clint, Social Studies Department Chair

Raised in Northern Virginia and Central West Virginia, Clint Lemasters currently resides in Elkins, West Virginia with his wife Kim and daughter Mollie. Clint is a certified secondary teacher, and runs a horseshoeing (farrier) business. His hobbies include fly fishing, horseback riding, bow hunting, and trying (and sometimes succeeding!) to stay in shape.
Clint teaches World Geography and World History.

David has a Bachelors in Industrial Arts (Technology Education) from Fairmont State and a Masters in Administration from WVU. David has a small pick your own blueberry farm in West Virginia and plays old time music on the fiddle and bass with a couple of bands.
David teaches Web Design and Computer Applications.

David S.

David S.

David’s hometown is Miami Florida but he spent most of his career in the Washington DC area. He has a diverse background with expertise in quality, customer service, financial services, reporting and operations. He earned his economics degree from Florida International University. David is fluent in Spanish as a native speaker.  He is the father of two young kids, is married to Alys, our Social Studies teacher. He loves Florida’s unique outdoors and cooking with science.
David teaches Spanish.

Derwin

Derwin, English Department Co-Chair

Derwin holds a B. A. in English as well as a Masters, and he has taught for Compuhigh since the spring of 2006. He and his wife love animals; they have one dog now and they hope to soon adopt another. Derwin also has a helpless addiction to photography, and he loves to work his photography into his travels. So far, his favorite international places have been Italy, Nova Scotia, and Ireland, but not necessarily in that order.
Derwin teaches English 10 Honors, English 11 Honors, English 12, Creative Writing, and Digital Photography. He is also the advisor to Whitmore NAU school newsletter.

Heather - Teacher

Heather D., Science Department Chair

Heather has a B.S. in Biology from James Madison University with a minor in Environmental Science. She lives in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia with her husband, 3 children, German Shepherd named Laney, and Great Pyrenees named Nala. She enjoys running, reading and hiking.
Heather teaches Earth Science, Conceptual Chemistry and Conceptual Physics.

Jackie

Jackie

Jackie graduated from Fairmont State University with a B.A. in Theatre and Secondary Education with specializations in English and Oral Communications. She is also employed with FirstEnergy. Jackie has a passion for dance and has worked with local dance studios, dance teams and has choreographed for local theatre productions, as well. Jackie lives in Fairmont, WV with her husband and two children.
Jackie teaches English 3, English 11, Business English, Speech.

Jason

Jason

Jason has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of South Carolina. He also has a Master’s of Education in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University, and a Master’s of Education in Administration from the University of South Carolina. He lives in Ridgeway, SC with his wife, son, and 2 daughters. He likes to travel and spend time with his granddaughters. Jason teaches Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 Honors.

Jean, Mathematics Department Chair

Jean attended Agnes Scott College, then graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS in mathematics, an MAT in Mathematics for Secondary Education, and completed all courses toward her Ph.D. degree in Mathematics Education.  She lives in Camden, SC, with her husband and Golden Retriever, Buddy.  Two children, five grandchildren, and their many pets accompany them on many various adventures which include traveling and swimming, wakeboarding, and boating at their lake house nearby. Jean teaches Algebra 2, as well as Probability and Statistics.

Jennifer

Jennifer has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education from the University of Alabama, AL. She is currently working toward a Master’s Degree in Library Science. She is passionate about teaching students how to research and find answers. Jennifer grew up on a farm where she learned to operate a skid steer loader.
Jennifer teaches English 9 and English 9 Honors.

Jessie

Jessie has M.A.T. from NOVA Southeastern University. She has been teaching science for 13 years. Jessie lives in Florida and enjoys boating, garage sales and volunteering at the Florida Oceanographic Society. She and her family love to go exploring and camping in their RV. Jessie is also a backyard beekeeper.

Joe has a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Science Education from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC and a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Physics from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY. Joe lives in Myrtle Beach, SC with his wife and son, and also teaches Science at SC Whitmore School. Joe enjoys reading and spending time with his family.

Laurie

Laurie has Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Spanish and French from UNC Charlotte. In addition to her love of teaching and languages, she enjoys reading, volunteering and spending time with her husband, three children and their Jack Russel Terrier named Giuseppe. She lives in South Carolina. Laurie teaches Spanish 1 and 2.

Lindsay has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Saint Mary’s College of California and a Master of Science in Mathematics in Math Education from Montana State University. She has been teaching since 2012 in Vermont public schools and made the transition to online education in 2020. She loves working with students remotely and witnessing how flexible education paths can enrich student’s lives. Lindsay lives in northern Vermont and enjoys hiking in all seasons, biking to explore all of the state’s rail trails, finding the best swimming holes, and reading when she runs out of good shows to watch! Lindsay teaches Algebra 1 and Geometry.

Maggie has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University, AR. She is married and lives in Columbia, SC with her husband who is completing law school. Maggie teaches English 9, English 9 Honors, English 10, English 12 and American Literature. Maggie is the Advisor to the WS-National Honor Society.

Mary

Mary graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a MA in Political Science. She loves to travel and has been to more than 30 countries and lived in three (Moldova, United Kingdom, and Slovakia). She is a former Peace Corps volunteer and speaks fluent Romanian. Mary currently lives in Annapolis, MD with her husband.

Melissa H.

Melissa earned an M.A. in English from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina in 2015. Formerly, she worked as a chef and an international flight attendant. Even more than cuisine and travel, however, her true passion is literary studies. She and her husband are also parents to two beautiful children, a girl and a boy.
Melissa teaches English 11 and English 10 Honors.

Misty has a bachelor of arts in English from Fairmont State University and spent several years as a journalist and editor. She is currently earning her master’s in special education and is a classroom teacher in West Virginia. Misty is an avid reader and artist and enjoys spending time with her husband and three children in their home among the hills.
Misty teaches English 9 and English 11 Honors.

Nelson

Nelson was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and now resides in Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife and 3 children. He holds a B.A in Political Science from North Carolina State University and a Masters degree in Instructional Design and Technology from Liberty University. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Nelson Instructional Design and Technology. Nelson enjoys spending time with family, watching movies, traveling, and meeting new people. He loves serving in his local church and is an avid jogger. Nelson holds nationwide seminars on Social Media Marketing, Communication skills, Copywriting and other valuable professional skills.
Nelson teaches U.S Government, U.S History and Career Planning and is our Social Media expert.

Pamela graduated with a B.S. degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences from West Virginia University. She currently teaches perinatal education classes to the community through West Virginia University Hospitals. She has home schooled her two children for almost 13 years. Pamela enjoys spending time with her children, dinners with her five sisters, and hiking with her Australian cattle dog.

Sam

Sam graduated from Northern Arizona University with a B.S. in Education with a specialization in science. The past nineteen years of teaching has provided him the opportunity to learn and grow alongside students in the United States, Mexico, Ecuador and Venezuela. His hobbies include surfing, snowboarding, guitar, camping, and cooking.
Sam teaches Algebra 1, Practical Math and Earth Science.

Stan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University and a Masters of Arts degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He is an avid musician who composes and performs. Stan enjoys friends, family and fun in his hometown of Morgantown, WV.

Susan

Susan earned her teaching degree for Elementary Education – Early Secondary Spanish at SUNY Cortland, and her  Masters from SUNY Brockport.  Susan really cemented a love of Spanish living with a family in Santiago, Spain for a summer in high school. In college, she also attended a semester at the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain.
Susan also enjoys working at Genesee Country Village & Museum showing visitors what life was like in the 19th century. She is a gifted baker – proficient in either a 19th-century kitchen or a modern kitchen. Susan finds relaxation in knitting and is always eager to travel near or far. Susan teaches Spanish.

Daisy, a Maltipoo, was our first beloved school mascot. She attended meetings and graduations. Daisy loved to meet students and parents when Ellen and Steve were traveling and hosting Coffee with the Principal. She loved Melissa because she always had a drawer full of treats.

Sandy reports to work everyday. She is a Maltipoo and weighs a whopping 6.5 lbs. Sandy loves to sit on laps and lick chins. She can’t wait to meet you at graduation!

I live in Illinois and I enrolled in Whitmore School my freshman year. I chose Whitmore because they allowed be to take responsibility for my education. My goal was to graduate early and I achieved it this spring!

Maddie, Whitmore Graduate

I am a Whitmore graduate. As a full-time gymnast who practices 20 hours a week, Whitmore allowed me to keep up with my busy gymnastics schedule and get a personalized education at the same time. Through Whitmore, I also discovered my passion for writing and I can’t wait to see where it takes me!
