Sunday Doesn’t Have To Be The Only FUNday

Work from home, work on the home, homeschool, online school, check math, double check grammar and punctuation, wash dishes, load the dishwasher, fold the laundry vacuum, cook dinner, make sure chores are complete.

Wash, rinse, repeat. 

If your days are like mine, you might be familiar with the need to (Amityville Horror voice) GET OUT!!!

Sometimes the kids and I get so focused on marching through our daily routine we forget that Whitmore School gives us freedom to break the traditional Monday through Friday school mold. We can go have fun any day we want! 

After checking everyone’s schedule, I noticed there was one day during the week when we didn’t have any obligations. No sports, no private lessons, no work…hmmmmmmm…the idea for Mandatory Fun Day with Mom was conceived. 

Why mandatory?  Because it is easy to get caught up with things that need to get done.

Why with mom?    Because I like to spend time with them, and I need to re-build my “fun mom” rep’.      

Why fun?               Duh! This seems obvious, but it’s easy to want to schedule appointments or run

                                errands on the “free” day.

                     DON’T! 

Why a weekday?   While 3 day weekends can be fun(ctional), it’s really nice to have a mid-week break.

                                Also, places tend to be less crowded, and sometimes special deals are available. 

We live in Central Florida so it is easy to come up with a long list of fun stuff to do. Yes, our list includes the beach and going to see the “big mouse”, but we also do generic things like go to the movies, go out for lunch, go to the park, the mall, the library…You get it, the idea is to leave the house, breathe in some fresh air, and to do things together. I like to check out Groupon for local deals and to come up with new places we might not have thought of on our own. Can you say Spa Day? There’s nothing funnier than the look on a teenage boy’s face when you tell him he’s going for a pedicure, and then being there to watch him laugh and squirm the entire time. 

***Hint*** I have found teenagers are more likely to try new things (or do things they are “too old for now”) if there are less people, especially their peer group, around.

 GET OUT AND HAVE SOME FUN – IT’S MANDATORY!
