Katie W. – National Qualifier
It was love at first sight when a family friend introduced Katie to riding horses at 5 years old. She began riding Western style and competed in 4H, but her passion became English Show Jumping. She achieved new heights (literally) with all her hard work and practice! Katie competed in many types of riding, including Western, Hunt Seat, and Dressage.
Six years ago, she joined her barn’s IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) team, which is made up of middle and high school riders from all over the USA. Katie has been to four Nationals, and was ranked 4th in the Nation in Dressage.

Katie explains, “The horse depends on you to let them know what you need from them. There is a bond when you put your foot in the stirrup and swing yourself onto the saddle. The mutual trust you both have for each other takes time and is so special.” Even though she practices hard daily, she still loves to just get on a horse and run through a field. “Being out in the open running free with just you and the horse is the best feeling in the world.”
Katie’s mom says, “Attending Whitmore has given her the opportunity to practice more and attend clinics to help better her riding. The freedom to have a flexible schedule has made a big difference in time to be with her horses.”
